What we're looking for
We're looking for people who are passionate about maths and want to help bring positive change to the young people we support. You should have a strong conceptual understanding of mathematics and the enthusiasm to inspire others with it. You should also be highly organised and self-motivated, with the drive to make a real difference.
We exist to serve pupils from backgrounds that are under-represented in university mathematics, and believe that we do this better when our team includes people who are from these backgrounds themselves. If you consider yourself to be from a background where progressing to university mathematics is not the norm then we strongly encourage you to apply.
About Axiom Maths
Axiom Maths is a maths education charity on a mission to help every child with the heart and head for maths realise the potential of their power - especially those whose potential is too often held back by disadvantage. Every year 30,000 children who were top performers at the end of primary school don't go on to get top GCSE grades in maths. We aim to change that by partnering with schools across England and Wales to run fully-funded in-school or online maths circles. Pupils tackle challenging and rewarding maths problems in a supportive social group where the subject is valued.
About the role
This is an exciting chance to share your passion for maths, challenge young minds and nurture mathematical talent in pupils from up and down the country.
As an Axiom Maths Mentor, you will lead weekly hour-long online maths circles with small groups of carefully selected high-attaining pupils. These aren't ordinary lessons. Axiom Maths is a taught enrichment programme that takes pupils beyond the school curriculum. Pupils tackle challenging and rewarding problems together, lose themselves in mathematical thinking, and leave each session a little more confident in who they are as mathematicians.
You will be provided with training, introductory videos, and curriculum materials for every session, so you can focus on what matters: sparking curiosity and building the next generation of mathematicians. There are more details about our maths circles here: What is an Axiom Maths Circle?
The duties of this role include
Prepare for each session:
Watch the introductory video, work through the problems yourself, read the guidance notes and think about how you'll draw the maths out of your pupils.
Lead the Axiom Maths curriculum:
Lead sessions that spark curiosity, stretch thinking, and challenge and inspire.
Build a community of mathematicians:
Help pupils see themselves as mathematicians and feel part of a larger network of like-minded peers supporting each other.
Reporting and feedback:
Report weekly on pupils' attendance and share feedback on curriculum resources so we can keep improving them together
Feed back annually on pupils' learning in the form of progress reports
Complete mentor surveys to help shape the programme
General:
Safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils at all times
Adhere to data protection, confidentiality and IT policies
Attend initial and ongoing training and take an active part in our quality assurance process
Additional opportunities
Alongside your online maths circles, you can choose to opt in to additional paid opportunities if they arise. These may include leading in-person maths circles in local schools, supporting events, and delivering pilot programmes. Travel expenses are covered for in-person work.
These opportunities are entirely optional. Online-only mentoring is equally valued.
You should apply if you

We would encourage you to apply, even if you don't believe you meet every one of our criteria.
